Ferelith Somerfield
(BMDCO Specialty Conformation Judge)
The Oudenarde Kennel name, which Ferelith Somerfield
uses today, had been in use for 74 years, as it was founded by her aunts
in 1927, Helen Hamilton and Margaret Temple. They were later
joined by Ferelith's mother, Diana Hamilton. In 1955, she not only
judged for the first time, but she also joined DOG WORLD as a trainee
sub-editor. She gradually progressed in her career and was editor
for many years. Today she is chairman of the company.
She also progressed as a judge and today she awards CCs in over 120
breeds, and judges all the groups and best in show at championship
level. In 1990 she judged best in show at Crufts; she has also
judged in many parts of the world, including Europe, USA, Canada,
Australia,
New Zealand, Scandinavia and South America.
In 1977 she married Stafford Somerfield. Ferelith Somerfield judged her
first classes of Bernese Mountain Dogs in the U.K. in 1986.
Before progressing to championship status she judged
an open show for the North Bernese Mountain Dog Club with an entry of 87
dogs.
Her first championship engagement in the breed came in 1986.
Among subsequent appointments she judged bitches for the Southern
Bernese Mountain Dog Club in 1991.
She has also judged the breed in Australia (including Sydney Royal),
Holland, Denmark and Scandinavia. |

June Ward
(BMDCO Specialty Draft Dog & Draft Dog Excellent Judges)
I first became interested in working Dogs in 1989 when I purchased a Newfoundland and at the same kennel I saw my first Bernese. I have
worked with the Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada, stewarding and assisting with Draft and water rescue seminars.
I purchased my first Bernese in 1993 and earned a Cdn. Ch. and CD
with her. In 1994, when the BMDCO was formed, I was elected as it's President. I
also assist in training, judging and stewarding at seminars and at specialties.
I have carted with my Newfs and Bernese at Fund Raisers and was on the
CKC committee to formalize the Draft Dog rules to open it up to all breeds.
I am presently a Director of the BMDCO.
I currently own four Bernese, Hope, Lulu, Pumpkin and Neige.
I have been in breeding for 6 years under the kennel name of "Kumnc".
